  • Posted by Kathy Millington on 29th April 2004
  • I am searching for any information relating to the WHITNEY family of High Easter, Essex (near Braintree and Chelmsford) during the first half of the 1800s.  My ancestor Simon WHITNEY was transported to Australia for stealing 4 chickens in High Easter in 1849.  He was approx 21 at the time ie born c.1825-27. I know that there were other WHITNEYs in High Easter at the time i.e.Henry born 1823, George born 1829, and James born 1810 & it's possible that Simon was their brother or cousin.  If I can track down descendents of these people I might be able to find out more about Simon's ancestry.  Simon ended up in Campbell Town, Tasmania, Australia with 14 children after marrying Anne GUINAN of County Kildare.  He died 6 April 1905. Many Thanks

  • Posted by Michelle Mann on 12th April 2004
  • I am looking for any descendants of Jessie ROGERS born in 1875/6 in Southwark London. She married Albert Edward ASKEW, ( who was originally from Aston Birmingham), on the 16th  February 1892 in Deptford London. As far as I am aware, she had only 1 child, my Grandmother, Annie Eliza born 11th January 1893 in Woolwich London. I have been told, that she stayed in London, where as my Gr Grandfather Albert and my Grandmother Annie, left London and went to live in Aston Birmingham during the late 1890`s.  The 1901 census states they were both in Birmingham but I cannot trace Jessie. There was a rumour in the family that she may have left her first husband due to cruelty, then married again. Is there anyone out there that is perhaps part of this second family that she may have had. She also according to the 1881 census had a sister Eliza born about 1878. Any information however small on this branch of my family would be gratefully appreciated. Many Thanks Michelle Mann
